Cardinals Top Prospect Jordan Walker Joins Red Sox Legend After Electric Start To Career

The St. Louis Cardinals couldn't ask for much more from outfielder Jordan Walker right now. 

Walker made history when he made his Major League Baseball debut on Opening Day at just 20 years old and he hasn't looked like a rookie in the slightest ever since. The young outfielder earned a starting role with the team to open the season and he has been one of the club's very best players ever since. 

The 20-year-old is leading the club in batting average at .353, home runs with two, and RBIs with eight, and stolen bases with one through nine games. Walker has appeared in all nine games for the Cardinals so far this season and has gotten a hit in each one to tie St. Louis' team record for a hitting streak to begin a career. 

Walker not only tied Magneuris Sierra for the Cardinals' team record to begin a career but also tied Boston Red Sox legend and Hall of Famer Ted Williams for the second-longest hitting streak by a player 20 years old and younger to begin a career with nine. After Sunday's performance, Walker now is just three games away from tying former Philadelphia Athletics outfielder Eddie Murphy for the all-time MLB hitting streak record for a player 20 years old and younger at 12 games. Murphy reached the feat in 1912 for Philadelphia. 

The Cardinals may not have started the 2023 season as they hoped, but that doesn't mean the club won't compete this season. St. Louis is 3-6 through nine games but should be competitive this season and even fight for a World Series title. If the Cardinals were to shine this season, Walker is going to play a major role in the club's success. 

Walker is the Cardinals' top prospect and he already is showing why. At just 20 years old, Walker is sure to be with the club for the foreseeable future and if he's able to maintain his current momentum and trajectory, he may be the team's next homegrown star.
