49ers QB Brock Purdy Opens Up About Contract Extension
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

At some point in the near future, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will get paid, and handsomely, at that.

The youngster is entering his third NFL season and has two years remaining on his rookie deal, so, naturally, some are beginning to chatter about a potential contract extension.

But that is hardly Purdy’s focus right now.

“I’m trying to win this year and do everything I can for this organization this year,” Purdy said Monday, via David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone. “Everything else happens how it happens. But for me, I need to get better from last year, on the film, and the things that I saw from last year. My rookie year, it’s like I’ve got this thing in me where I want to continue to master my craft, and that’s that.”

Purdy understands the business side of things, but his top priority is competing.

“It’s a business, obviously, too. But for me, I love this game,” he said. “I love just competing with these guys in this organization. I love this organization, and I want to continue to represent myself for them, and in the right way. So that’s where I’m at with that. Getting too caught up in all that kind of stuff is, for me, that’s nonsense. So, just taking it one day at a time and getting better.”

Purdy is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 113. He made the Pro Bowl and finished fourth in MVP voting for his efforts.

Most importantly, the 24-year-old took the 49ers all the way to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

San Francisco should once again be a legitimate contender in 2024, so long as Purdy continues to play like one of the top signal-callers in football.

We’ll see what Brock Purdy does for an encore next season.
