The process of former NFL quarterback Tom Brady purchasing a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders has been ongoing for quite some time now. After issues arose with the original agreement, Brady and the Raiders went back to the table to fix things to the NFL owners’ liking.

The re-worked seemed to signify that Brady’s purchase was nearing approval, however the owners did not vote on his deal to purchase that minority stake in the Raiders during the NFL’s annual league meeting. But NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stressed that this was not due to some delay or issue.

In speaking with the media, Goodell simply noted that the NFL goes through a very thorough process when approving owners, adding that Brady’s deal with the Raiders is making progress, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:

“I wouldn’t say it’s a delay,” Goodell said Tuesday from the NFL’s annual league meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes. “We go through a very thorough process. … We’re just going through our process. We’ve been in touch with their side. I think it’s been making progress.”

There were still some kinks to work out with Brady and his imminent ownership deal with the Raiders. Some are reportedly concerned with Brady being an analyst for FOX’s NFL coverage while being a minority owner with the Raiders as that could be a conflict of interest.

Another thing was his ties to BetMGM. The gambling company has used Brady’s image and likeness in certain marketing ads, and that can not continue once Brady is an owner. He can still own up to 5% of the company, but the advertising must end.

The NFL owners are currently scheduled to reconvene in May, and if things continue to progress, they may vote on Brady’s minority ownership of the Raiders.

Antonio Pierce says Aidan O’Connell has earned the right to compete for Raiders QB job

Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time, but he won’t be suiting up on the field for the Raiders. Exactly who will be under center when the team takes the field next season is unclear, but head coach Antonio Pierce knows Aidan O’Connell will be in the mix.

Pierce said that O’Connell’s play as a rookie last season, going 5-5 as a starter for the Raiders, earned him the right to compete for the job next season. Veteran Gardner Minshew was added, and the team seems likely to draft a quarterback as well, but no matter who else comes in, they will have to get past O’Connell to be the Raiders starter.
